Earning your Class A CDL in Tennessee opens doors to high-demand combination vehicle driving opportunities in logistics, agriculture, manufacturing, and freight. Major Tennessee trucking corridors like Interstate 40, I-24, and I-65 support these industries throughout Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. Now is the time to dramatically increase your marketability by passing the state’s Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test (along with a few other requirements).
The 20-question, multiple-choice exam is essential for earning your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). To pass, you must correctly answer at least 16 questions, with a minimum passing score of 80%. If you don’t pass, Tennessee law requires you to wait at least one business day before retesting, and a new test fee will apply.
Our Free Tennessee CDL Combination Practice Test is designed to help you pass on your first try and avoid costly delays. It reflects the format and subject matter of the real exam and is based on the latest Tennessee CDL Manual. Built-in feedback, hints, and scientifically structured features make our practice tools far more effective than ordinary study guides.
With our practice tests, you’ll learn and retain information more quickly and efficiently. Our practice tests cover safe driving practices for combination vehicles (like preventing trailer skids and jackknives), air brake system basics and usage in combination vehicles, proper coupling and uncoupling techniques, and inspection procedures.
Tennessee also enforces federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations. You must complete ELDT with an approved provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR) before scheduling your CDL skills test. Once you complete ELDT, you must hold your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days before taking the hands-on skills test in a representative combination vehicle.
Most Tennessee combination vehicles use air brakes, so we highly recommend that you pass the separate Air Brakes Knowledge Test. Without it, your CDL will carry a restriction (L or Z) that disqualifies you from operating vehicles with full air brake systems. We have an incredible set of practice tests that cover the air brakes material with the goal of helping you pass on your first attempt.
