Free Montana Driver’s Handbook Practice Test (2025)

  • Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
  • Based on official Montana Driver's manual
  • Triple-checked for accuracy
  • Updated for October 2025

In Montana, teens can start the licensing process as early as age 14½ if they complete a driver’s education course. This process begins with a learner’s license, which is acquired after passing a vision screening, providing parental consent, scoring 82% or higher on the official written knowledge exam, and providing identification documents. Many aspiring drivers make avoidable mistakes during the knowledge test simply because they rush. Even though this test is timed, you should read every question twice and think before you select an answer. To increase your chances of obtaining a passing score on your first attempt, you should train with our practice tests several weeks in advance.

Our Montana Driver’s Handbook Practice Test is available online 24/7. You don’t need complex software or advanced computer skills to access it since it runs directly in the browser. All 20 multiple-choice questions are based on the official Montana Driver Manual (Montana DMV Handbook (MT Driver's Manual) 2025). The Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) recommends that all aspiring drivers read this manual multiple times during their learning phase.

Your personal Challenge Bank™ stores all the questions you get wrong. This section includes detailed explanations that can help you understand the reasoning behind the correct answers. Premium users can also add any question to their Challenge Bank by using the bookmark icon in the top-right corner of the page. Visit this section to learn from your mistakes and improve your knowledge. Keep in mind that questions in your Challenge Bank will remain there until you answer them correctly. Because state laws can change, accuracy is crucial when you study driving theory. This practice test is up to date as of October 2025, so you will always train with the latest version. The MT MVD website provides more up-to-date information, and we recommend checking it regularly.

We know how Driver's Ed goes

The material is dry. Studying it is tedious. And you don't want to step foot inside the DMV. So you dread it, avoid it, pretend it doesn't exist. Or you go to the DMV and shoot your shot. You walk in. Take a number. Then the number takes your soul.

Noses sneeze. Babies cry. Frustration groans. And when it's finally time to take your test, you're sweating. Thirty minutes later, you're crying. Because despite your best efforts. You failed. Next thing you know, you're chasing a Waymo in circles to get home (embarrassing!).
That ends here.
At Driving Tests, we know emotions can get in the way of doing what you need to do. So we deliver Driver's Ed that makes it easy to start, and even easier to finish. We get you DMV Smart ASAP. Testing you with real, up-to-date questions. Backing up tricky driving situations with easy-to-grasp visuals & engaging practice tests that reaffirm what you know, and test you again on what you don't. So by the time test day comes - you *own* the DMV. Your only worry? Convincing the proctor you didn't cheat ;)
