Want to expand your driving opportunities and your paycheck? Adding the Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement to your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is one of the best ways to do that. In Mississippi, the HazMat endorsement qualifies you to haul materials that the U.S. government has classified as hazardous. These include petroleum products, fertilizers, pesticides, and other industrial chemicals. Employers across the Magnolia State, including Ergon Inc. (Jackson), Chemours Company (DeLisle), and Howard Industries (Laurel), rely on certified Hazmat drivers for their transport needs. The extra requirements necessary for this specialized skill are often met with higher pay! With so much need among these industries, the HazMat endorsement is an easy way to unlock new opportunities.
To earn this endorsement, you’ll need to complete a few major steps designed to ensure your safety as well as that of the public and the environment. First, you’ll need to make sure all Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) requirements are complete. Next, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires fingerprinting and a background check. Because results can take weeks, it’s smart to use that time to prepare for the third hurdle toward obtaining the HazMat endorsement: the DMV HazMat Knowledge Test.
This official exam covers federal regulations, material handling, packaging, quantity limits, and transport configurations. (That may sound like a lot, but we make it simple.) Furthermore, the test includes 30 questions, and you’ll need a score of at least 80% to pass (Mississippi CDL Handbook 2025).
Mirroring the style of the official exam, our online practice tests cut out the fluff, focusing only on the material you may face on the exam. Our practice tests give you immediate feedback per response, which has been shown to speed learning and retention. Additionally, this practice test isn’t the only one we offer. We have an entire set of Mississippi-specific HazMat practice tests. Once you’ve got a handle on this one, try another: https://driving-tests.org/mississippi/ms-cdl-hazmat-practice-test/.
Don’t stop here! We also offer other Mississippi-specific endorsement practice tests as well as practice tests to prepare for the combination vehicle knowledge test. We even have practice tests to help you pass the Air Brakes Test. Passing that test removes the air brakes restriction from your CDL, enabling a huge number of new job opportunities.
