MI CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Test 2 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
  • Based on 2025 MI commercial driver's license manual
  • Triple-checked for accuracy
  • Updated for July 2025

If you are interested in driving combination vehicles, such as tractor-trailers, in Michigan, you’ll need to acquire a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). To do this, you’ll be required to pass the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test (in addition to other licensing steps). Without this license, you cannot legally operate vehicles that tow trailers with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 10,000 pounds when the total combination weight exceeds 26,001 pounds (Michigan Commercial Driver License Manual).

In addition to the knowledge test, Michigan requires successful completion of Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) through a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR). After completing ELDT, you must also pass a skills test in a representative combination vehicle.

In order to pass the Michigan Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test, you must achieve a minimum score of 80%, which means answering at least 16 of the 20 multiple-choice questions correctly. If you do not pass, you must wait at least one business day and pay a retesting fee for each additional attempt. But with our scientifically designed set of practice tests, you won’t need to worry about that!

Our Free Michigan CDL Combination Practice Test mimics the official test in both format and information source, using questions based directly on the most recent Michigan CDL Manual. Immediate feedback and hints are provided to accelerate learning and retention. Topics covered include safe driving practices for combination vehicles (preventing trailer skids and jackknifes), air brake systems in combination vehicles, proper coupling and uncoupling procedures, and inspection procedures specific to this vehicle type.

Earning your Class A CDL in Michigan is a powerful step toward increasing your employability across multiple industries. These include agriculture and food transport (milk, corn, soybeans, and cherries), automotive manufacturing and logistics, forestry and construction hauling, and cross-border freight. Michigan’s major trucking corridors include Interstate 69 (linking to Canada), Interstate 75, Interstate 96, and US Route 23.

You might also consider removing certain restrictions and adding other certifications to your license, all of which you can easily accomplish with the assistance of our suite of Michigan-specific practice tests. Most tractor-trailers use air brakes, so you’ll want to prepare for the Air Brakes Knowledge Test to remove the CDL restriction prohibiting you from operating vehicles with air brakes.
