Free Kentucky DMV Permit Practice Test 2025

  • Perfect for learner’s permit, driver’s license, and Senior Refresher Test
  • Based on official Kentucky Driver's manual
  • Triple-checked for accuracy
  • Updated for October 2025

To get your Kentucky KSP Instruction Permit (Learner’s), you must be at least 16 years of age and pass a vision screening and written knowledge test. The drivers’ knowledge test consists of 40 multiple-choice questions covering materials as outlined in the state’s Kentucky KSP 2025 Driver’s Manual. To pass, you must score at least 80% (32 out of 40 questions). If you fail, you must wait until the next business day to retest. Our practice tests ensure this is not an outcome.

Our free online Kentucky KSP Permit Practice Test is updated for October 2025 and mimics actual exam conditions. Immediate feedback for each question and answer is provided to speed learning.

Kentucky’s Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program, designed to help minors gradually gain experience in driving, begins with the Instruction Permit (age 16 required). With this permit, you must have a licensed adult (aged 21+) in the car with you and log 60 hours of driving (including 10 at night). After holding your instruction permit for 180 days, you can take a skills test to get your intermediate license. With an intermediate license, you’re allowed to drive unsupervised except between midnight and 6 a.m. for the first 180 days (with exceptions). You are also limited to one non-family passenger under 20. After reaching age 17, holding the intermediate license for 180 days with no traffic violations, and completing a state-approved driver education course, you can get your unrestricted license.

If you’re 18 or older, you don’t need to complete driver education or GDL phases but must pass the vision and knowledge test to receive a learner’s permit, allowing supervised driving. If you’re 18-20, you must hold your permit for 180 days before taking the skills test. If you’re 21 or older, you may take the skills test when ready to get an unrestricted license.

To apply for a permit, visit the KSP with proof of identity (birth certificate, passport), Social Security card, proof of legal presence, and one proof of residence, or two for a REAL ID (utility bill, bank statement). If under 18, you’ll need a consent form (signed in person) from a parent or legal guardian and a required Kentuckyschool compliance verification form. Submit the documents, pass a vision screening, pay the fee, and pass the official written test.

We know how Driver's Ed goes

The material is dry. Studying it is tedious. And you don't want to step foot inside the DMV. So you dread it, avoid it, pretend it doesn't exist. Or you go to the DMV and shoot your shot. You walk in. Take a number. Then the number takes your soul.

Noses sneeze. Babies cry. Frustration groans. And when it's finally time to take your test, you're sweating. Thirty minutes later, you're crying. Because despite your best efforts. You failed. Next thing you know, you're chasing a Waymo in circles to get home (embarrassing!).
That ends here.
At Driving Tests, we know emotions can get in the way of doing what you need to do. So we deliver Driver's Ed that makes it easy to start, and even easier to finish. We get you DMV Smart ASAP. Testing you with real, up-to-date questions. Backing up tricky driving situations with easy-to-grasp visuals & engaging practice tests that reaffirm what you know, and test you again on what you don't. So by the time test day comes - you *own* the DMV. Your only worry? Convincing the proctor you didn't cheat ;)
