IN CDL Combination Vehicles Practice Test 2 2025

  • Perfect for first-time and renewal CDL/CLP applicants, and those adding endorsements
  • Based on 2025 IN commercial driver's license manual
  • Triple-checked for accuracy
  • Updated for July 2025

If you’re preparing to drive combination vehicles (such as tractor-trailers) in Indiana, a critical step is passing the Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test. This test is required to qualify for a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). You must have a Class A CDL to operate combination vehicles whose gross combination weight rating (GCWR) is 26,001 pounds or more, and the towed unit exceeds 10,000 pounds (Indiana CDL Manual).

The Indiana Combination Vehicles Knowledge Test has 20 multiple-choice questions. You must correctly answer at least 16 (80%) to pass. If you fail, you must wait at least one business day before retesting and may face a retest fee.

Our free Indiana CDL Combination Practice Test mirrors the format and topics found on the real exam. It’s based on the most recent CDL Manual and includes immediate feedback, helpful hints, and answer explanations. Topics on which you may be tested include combination vehicle safety, preventing trailer skids and jackknifes, air brakes in combination vehicles, coupling and uncoupling procedures, and vehicle inspection requirements.

Before taking the official CDL Skills Test, you must complete Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from an FMCSA-approved training provider listed on the Training Provider Registry (TPR). After completing your ELDT and holding your Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) for at least 14 days, you’ll be eligible for the skills test to earn your Class A CDL.

Passing the Combination Vehicles Test and earning your Class A CDL enhances your job prospects in Indiana’s transportation sector. Industries that rely on CDL Class A drivers include agriculture and livestock transport, construction and heavy equipment hauling, manufacturing and logistics, and long-haul and regional freight. Major freight corridors within the state include Interstates 65, 69, 70, and 74 (with access to surrounding states and logistics hubs). Employers such as FedEx Freight, TMC Transportation, and regional distributors rely on drivers with Class A CDLs.

Practically all combination vehicles use air brakes, so passing the Air Brakes Knowledge Test (to remove the restriction “L” or “Z” that limits your ability to operate air brake-equipped vehicles) is vital. Other endorsements you may want to consider include T (doubles/triples), N (tank vehicles), H (hazardous materials), and X (tank and hazardous materials combined). Each added endorsement increases your job prospects and marketability.

Our Indiana-specific practice tests are designed to help you pass every required exam the first time! Be sure to check out our entire lineup.
